Giant Guide Dots

While not discussed in his book, Marler's collection had several of these varieties with plate positions indicated. These varieties will be discussed in detail, by Leopold Beaudet in a future issue of The Admiral's Log.

1 Cent Green Large Guide Dot Right

Not in Marler: "Giant Guide Dot" inside the portrait oval at right centre.

2 Cent Carmine 5LL2

Not in Marler: Very large Guide Dot in the left inner oval. In his collection, Marler, had this position indicated as 6UL2. Based on Leopold Beaudet's examination of the plate proofs at Archives Canada, this is actually from 5LL2. Note that this stamp is type O1. The dot in the top margin above the 'O' is constant.

Not in Marler: Very large Guide Dot in the left inner oval.

2 Cent Carmine 44LL92

"Doubling of the oval band outside left centre and above C and inside right centre, with a large dot in the portrait 2.75 mm from the frame and another dot in the margin opposite left centre"

20 Cent Arc a

Not in Marler: A short, outward facing arc in the centre left of the inner oval. The arc intersects a very strong guide dot to right of centre.
