Marler and Beyond...

1 Cent Green 3-R-13-6

Not in Marler: Several dots in the right margin - one well to the right of the top corner and more near the bottom right corner. There are arc like lines in the right margin at centre and also through the bottom of the right numeral box.

Not in Marler: Clear compass arc in right margin with a guide dot to the left.

1 Cent Green Arc b

Not in Marler: Shallow arc just to the right of the frame in the centre right margin. There is a large guide dot in the centre right inner oval.

1 Cent Green Arc c

Not in Marler: A longer, shallow arc in the left side clearly visible in the 'C' of Canada and leaf 4.

1 Cent Green Arc d

Not in Marler: A longer, shallow arc in the right side clearly visible in and above the 'E' of Postage and inside the right frame across from the 'TA'. A small segment can be seen in the inner oval opposite leaf 3.

Not in Marler: A shallow arc in the right inner oval which bisects a large guide dot.

1 Cent Green Coil 4LR80

Not in Marler: Guide dot just below an arched horizontal guide line in the centre of the left margin.

1 cent Green Coil Right Margin

Not in Marler: Many marks in the right margin including guide lines, guide dots and a possible compass arc extending from near the top of the right numeral box.

1 Cent Green Two Marks at Top

Not in Marler: Almost horizontal, slightly curved lines in the top margin at both corners.

Not in Marler: There is an intersecting pair of arcs through a guide dot in the lower right margin.

2 Cent Carmine 75LL95

Not in Marler: Guide Dot and large Compass Arc in the Upper left margin.

2 Cent Carmine Arc at Left

Not in Marler: Arc in the left margin at centre which almost touches the frame.

2 Cent Carmine Arc at Top a

Not in Marler: A faint arc in the top margin above the 'PO" of Postage.

2 Cent Carmine Coil Arc

Not in Marler: A short, horizontal Arc with a central Guide Dot in the right margin opposite leaf four.

2 Cent Carmine Guidelines and Arc at Right

Not in Marler: Vertical and horizontal guidelines which cross within a guide dot in the centre right margin. There is an arced guideline in the lower right.

2 Cent Carmine Left Margin Stroke

Not in Marler: Slightly curved line at left centre margin.

2+1 Brown War Tax Three Marks at Top

Not in Marler: Two curved lines in the upper left corner and one in the upper right corner.

2+1¢ Brown War Tax Re-entry c

Not in Marler: A vertical line in the left margin opposite and below the left numeral box with a short horizontal line in the bottom margin just to the right of the left frame line.

The small curved line in the lower left margin is not constant.

3 Cent Brown LL10 Arc

Not in Marler: A long, shallow arc from the top to the bottom margin. It cuts through the 'S' of Postage and the 'E' and 'S' of Three Cents and is quite noticeable behind the King's neck.

5 Cent Blue 13UL1

Not in Marler; A large ARC in the left margin curving in to the frame near the crown and the numeral box.

5 Cent Blue 14LL91

Not in Marler: A large Arc in the left margin curving into the frame near the bottom of the crown and leaf 2.

5 Cent Blue Large Arc Right

Not in Marler: There is a large arc which goes from upper right to lower right corners and appears much like a bent guideline.

5 Cent Blue Upper Right Arc

Not in Marler: The slightly curved line in the upper right margin, opposite the crown is a possible compass arc.

7 Cent Bistre 6UL40

Not in Marler: Curved line in the top margin. The line somewhat resembles a 'Compass Arc', but given the centre point of the arc and the lack of guide dot, it is unlikely.

7 Cent Bistre Arc at Left Centre a

Not in Marler: In the left outer oval a guide dot is bisected by a shallow arc. Quite similar to "Arc at Left Centre b", but here the arc is more to the centre of the portrait oval.

There is also a mark in the bottom arm of the 'E' of Postage which resembles a 'notch' - see notes below image.

7 Cent Bistre Arc at Left Centre b

Not in Marler: In the left outer oval a guide dot is bisected by a shallow arc. Quite similar to "Arc at Left Centre a", but here the arc is closer to the portrait oval.

7 Cent Bistre Arc in RNB

Not in Marler: Arc like vertical line to the right of the '7' in the right numeral box. There is a strong dot to the right of the line. It is possible that this line is a Compass Arc. There is a small dot in the right margin opposite the lower right corner and a much stronger vertical guide line in the upper left.

Compass ARCs

During the early steps of play layout, compass arcs were etched on the plate to help ensure proper transfer roller placement. Most of these arcs were later removed, but some remained on the plate and can occasionally be found.
